Backup

Almost every day I see someone crying in my store... Usually they plead "Is there anything you can do?" or "Please help me! that was my whole life!"

In this digital age, almost everyone I know has their entire life summed up in the form of photos, movies, emails, documents, music, bookmarks, and contacts that reside on their computer.

Most people are not backing up that information. One bad drive and it is gone forever.

Recently, I was sharing about the backup workflow that I use with a group of peers and I decided to post some of the products that I've found to be useful in protecting your data.

As far as software goes, Apple's Backup does an awesome job of creating imaged backups of your machine. You have the option to customize what is backed up to DVD, CD, External Drive, Online storage space.

You also can just add an external drive to your system and then drag and drop to the drive. You need to manage this system manually with your operating system.

Data Robotics Inc. has recently released a revolutionary project called Drobo which allows you to create an external USB drive with up to 4 terabytes of storage. This storage robot features 4 slots for internal SATA drives that can vary in size or can be of equal size. Drobo runs it's own operating system and features data redundancy.

In October, Apple will release Mac OS X Leopard. One of the new features included in the update will be called Time Machine and will allow you to back up data and access it easier through a Graphic User Interface.

All of these options will do the job of backing up properly.
If you have a lot of data or access it frequently, you may want to use 2 or more of these options to ensure your data is safe.

Pick a method and go backup before you are the one in tears...

Busy...

On the way to Sonoma

I'm not quite used to the blogging lifestyle... I hear in order to be a "good blogger" you must post multiple times a day. I've quite obviously not been a blogger or a good blogger since May 16th. Sorry it has taken so long to get this next post up but I'm trying to get used to this idea of frequent posts...

Here is the rundown on what has happened since then.

In short, I got a new camera, my parents visited with us for a few days, we went down to Orange County to take photos at Char and Grace's wedding, I flew back, working non-stop at Apple, I started taking night photos again. I'll let the photos tell the story.

We are really trying to push the upcoming Unify North Bay Conference and I've made a sad attempt to communicate the news to people in North Bay through Myspace. Although it seems to be working as far as promotional attempts go, it seems as though Myspace is quite possibly the most vulgar place ever invented. Within minutes of signing up, and without "clicking" on anything my inbox was filled with sketchy and questionable material. Scary place to be!
